How to Capture an Audience with 5 Key Values

Whether you are speaking to a classroom of students, a crowd of professionals at a conference or speaking as a politician, there are five key values to remember when engaging center stage. Based on Julian Treasure’s, business coach and author, TED Talk conference these were some quick takeaways to apply when public-speaking:

1. HONESTY
   Be as clear and straight as possible. Honesty is the winning formula for effective public speaking. Don't aim for being excellent. Just deliver your message and be yourself, and you'll come across at your best if you aim for truth and not effects.
   

2. AUTHENTICITY
   You are unique in every way, be yourself on stage. There is nothing wrong adopting speaking styles from role-models, but be sure to make your speech your own. Instead of "Speaking," just talk to listeners or audiences.
   

3. INTEGRITY
   Be your word. Do what you say and say what you do.
   

4. LOVE
   Wish listeners well and speak from the heart, after all words from the heart, enter the heart.
   

5. BE AN EXPERT
   Be prepared and know your content, this only boosts your credibility in your area of expertise.
